Hotel Transylvania Seeing Red Chp 10

Dracula quickly pulled Johnny out of the pool and motioned to Ruby, "Follow me."  With that they went through the doors and went inside the hotel.  

"Now what?"  Ruby asked.  

Dracula took in a deep breath, "Alright new plan, Rue you take Johnny and have him change, then meet me by the doorway to the cemetery and I'll take care of the rest."  

"Ok, see you later," Ruby replied, and Dracula returned outside.      

The both of them walk down the long hallway to the changing room.  "Is he always like that?"  Johnny asked.  

"No, no, not always," Ruby replied.  

Johnny sighed, "He's so uptight, how do you deal with it?"  

Ruby rolled her eyes, "He maybe all high-maintenance but he's a really nice guy."  

Johnny paused, "Seriously?"  

"No really, I've worked here for about 40 years and we get along great."

"40 Years!"  He exclaimed.  "And I thought High-School never ended."  

Ruby laughed, "It's sometimes hard work but it's worth it."  

"So, what do you do basically?"  

"You can say I'm Dracula's Assistant or the Assistant Manager here."  

"Whoa!  That's so cool!"  

*Later*

Ruby waited outside the door for Johnny to change clothes, a few minutes later he came out in his Johnnystein costume.  "Hey Ruby, I was wondering how did you get a job here and you know, became the assistant manager?"  

Ruby took a deep breath, "Well, it's kind on a long story but I'll try to keep it simple, I used to travel around the world for about ten years and one day I was staying with one of my monster friends and they told me about this hotel.  I had to check it out, and when I heard they were hiring I jumped at the chance.  I started out with cleaning and room service and after a few years I was promoted to assistant manager because of my organization and reliability."  

"That's pretty cool," Johnny said in awe.  

Ruby smiled, "Besides, someone has to deal with grouch-fang's."  They both laughed.

"That's a good point," Johnny said, they both sighed.  

"Could I ask you one more thing?"  

"Sure."  

"Do you like Dracula?"

Ruby froze for a moment, that question came out of nowhere.  "Wait-what?  What makes you say that?"  Ruby felt a blush rise on her face.  

Johnny grinned, "Well remember earlier the guys said Drac heard you singing and he said something about your voice sounding very nice?"  

Ruby's face was almost as red as her name, "Yeah, so?"  

"So?  You were totally blushing, I think Drac was too."  

"Shut-up, he was probably embarrassed as I was."  

"Who knows, maybe he likes you too."  

"I doubt it," Ruby says in almost a flat voice.  

"What makes you say that?" Johnny asked.

"Well, he was married many years ago but when Mavis was just a baby, her mother tragically died, ever since then he promised he would always protect their little girl.  Deep down I know he holds strong feeling for her even after death, I really care about him but I'm afraid to tell him how I feel after all these years."

"Do you ever think about telling him?"  Johnny asked.

"You have no idea how many times I've wanted to, but sometimes I would rather not know because if I could stay by his side, be there for him, I'll be fine with that," Ruby looked down not wanting to show the heartache on her face.

"Wow, you really care for him do you?"

"Yeah."  

"Can I ask one more thing, what was her mother like?"  

Ruby paused, "I never met her, but I do know she was quite beautiful."

"How do you know?"

"Well Dracula has this huge portrait of him and his wife and sometimes he would catch me looking at it.  Most of the time he doesn't like to bring it up."

Johnny patted her back, "Just hang in there, I mean you never know what will happen."  

Ruby smiled, "You know, you're pretty cool, for a human, even if you can be a bit annoying."  

"Hey what's that supposed to mean?"  Johnny said but Ruby just laughed.

"Oh Johnny, could we keep this conversation just between us?"

"Sure."

They waited a few minutes more until Dracula walked up the hallway and stopped in front of them.  "Ok, time to go," he said as he picked up Johnny by his coat.  

"Ruby wait here," Dracula said, Ruby gave swift nod and he made his way to the cemetery.
